When I visited Gulmarg, I also came to know about Kanchenjunga Museum which was dedicated to the Indian Army. So that made me want to explore the museum as I admire Indian Army very much and wanted to have a look at their life in the snow-capped mountains to protect our India. So I visited the museum and came to knew about some very interesting facts.
Kanchenjunga Museum was first developed as a high-altitude warfare school which was used for training and research purposes. But later the museum was set up to commemorate the first summit of the Indian Army to Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain in the year 1997.
The museum displays modern warfare, mountain equipment, and gear that is used by the Indian Army in the high mountain ranges. So if you’re curious like me you should definitely give it a visit to the museum when visiting Gulmarg to know about how soldiers of the Indian Army spend their life in freezing mountain areas to guard the borders of our nation.
Kanchenjunga Museum displays mountain equipment and gear such as fixed rope, grappling tool, and much more. And also you there is detailed information about each tool and how these tools work. Even other expeditions like the expedition of Mount Everest in 2001 has been given a place here. The museum is a symbol of respect for the Indian Army.
You can visit the museum throughout the year and there are no charges for visiting the museum. And it is opened all days of the week and timings are:
- In Summer: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- In Winter: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
