During my visit to Gulmarg, I was looking for some unexplored places in Gulmarg. So after some searching on Google and asking locals, I came to know Strawberry Valley which was really a hidden gem in Gulmarg. And who doesn’t love Strawberries? So I visited the valley without wasting time to taste some fresh strawberries.
But I was really disappointed as there were no strawberries at that time but still, Strawberry Valley was a hidden gem to take a stroll in the open fields. Even many Bollywood movies have been shot near the valley and one which I came to know about was Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan’s Namak Hala.
Strawberry Valley is also known as Gulmarg Meadows. And the valley is famous for hiking, ATV ride, camping and much more. There are nearly about 31 types of flowers in the meadow.
To reach Strawberry Valley, you can walk 5 km from Gulmarg or you can take a pony ride. Well, it’s better to take a pony ride as they know in-depth about the place. You can contact +91 8803781682 for hiring a pony there and I found this number on some forum.
There are many scenic spots on the way so make sure to get some great shots. But I would suggest you visit the place only during the strawberry season as there isn’t much to see there when there aren’t any strawberries. You can ask the locals there for some strawberries and if you’re lucky you may get some.
If you want to have an overnight stay there in camps, there is a site called Gulmarg Meadows which you can book online before visiting. But I wouldn’t suggest you stay overnight as tents there are expensive and isn’t worth your money. And if you’re a Non-Veg lover there’s bad news for you as they only serve Vegerterain food.
Let me give you an extra piece of advice, there are many other places which you can visit near Gulmarg and Strawberry Valley isn’t worth if visited when there are not Strawberries. It is just a small area for plantation. You can skip this place and visit some other places if you’re short of time.
