What is RTO?
RTO stands for Regional Transport Office. It is also known as the Regional Transport Authority. They maintain a database of drivers and a database of vehicles for states and UT’s of India. They also issue Driving Licenses, collects road tax, and sell personalized registration.
Their database identifies untaxed vehicles, identify cars entering different states, and checks for vehicles exceeding speed limits on a road by using speed cameras.
What are RTO Codes?
RTO Codes help to identify the ownership and other details of the vehicle. It helps to identify the state and in which district of that was that vehicle registered.
For example, JK 02 AAAA means that the vehicle was registered in Jammu and Kashmir, and the number 02 tells that it was registered in the Jammu district of J&K.
